Unbeaten and nationally ranked Morton proved to be too much for the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team Thursday night, defeating the Chargers 72-36 in their home opener at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
KEY MOMENT
Down 24-7 early in the second quarter, Sandburg (0-2) pulled back within seven behind a 10-0 run capped by back-to-back 3-pointers from freshman Emily Cash (Yates City, Ill./Farmington) to make it 24-17. A jumper by freshman Addison Eger (Mendon, Ill./Unity) got the Chargers within 26-19 later in the period, but the 14th-ranked Panthers (7-0) closed the half with six straight points and led by double digits the rest of the way.
